Surah Al Fatiha (1:1) – Lord of the Worlds

الْحَمْدُ للّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds

M Shakir's Quran Translation

Lord of the Worlds

Modern science has evolved a lot, but at few things it is still silent and surely there would be many secrets of this universe which will never become clear to us. No matter how much knowledge we gather there would be few mysteries that would always remain unsolved, few question will always remain unanswered. Allah explains this handicapped human knowledge in another Ayat, "They know the outward of this world's life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless
(Surah Room 30:7)"[30-7]. One of these unsolved mysteries is the existence of 'aliens'. Is there any life outside the planet earth? Are there living beings outside the Milky Way? Universe is so vast that we can never say with surety that 'I've searched out the universe and I didn't find any aliens'. Many theories are coming up telling us of the 'high' chance of existence of planets outside the Milky Way with the 'identical' climatic and atmospheric conditions like our 'mother' planet.

Max Tugmark has delved into the theories of physics which are concerned with the parallel universes which are classified into four levels that can allow continuous variations. Following are the levels of the parallel universes:

The fist level:

worlds that are governed by the same physics and the constants of our world physics yet the development of its material might be different

The second level:

of different physics constants and time dimensions from that we have in our universe.

The third level:

every quantum may lead various copies.

The fourth level:

has it own different laws of physics.

In this Ayat the word
عَالَمِينَ is of great importance. We find various different explanations of this word but its marvels will never become totally evident to us. Most of the scholars say that by saying ,"Lord of the Worlds", Allah means the "Lord of the Worlds of all Living Beings"; like the World of Animals, World of Fishes, World of Angels, World of Spirits etc. عَالَمِينَ is the plural of the word عالَم which means a thing from which knowledge of something is learnt. As the knowledge of God is learnt through the universe hence the universe is called عالم . عالم can also refer to an age (era), it has been used in this meaning in the Holy Quran in Surah Al Baqarah 2:47.

Another explanation given of the word 'Worlds' is that perhaps it is pointing to the existing of other worlds identical to ours with the existence of life. There are other Ayaats of the Holy Quran which clearly indicate the existence of life outside the planet earth and the word used is such that we cannot relate it to angels. There are many scholars who have proved the existence of 'Aliens' from those Ayaats.

And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and what He has spread forth in 'both of them' of living beings; and when He pleases He is all-powerful to gather them together
(Surah Shura 42:29)

Alien-threat might be used by the secret societies who control the world as a fake threat, forcing the world to unite under the umbrella of new world order. No wonder Ronald Reagan in his speech once said, " I am amazed, how dramatically the world would change if we were facing an alien threat from outside". People who have worked for the secret societies in the past, now admit that they planned to use alien and meteor threats in the future, for which they are preparing the masses through movies, cartoons which frequently show aliens. There is a long list of Hollywood movies on aliens and meteors. When we talk of aliens, we talk of them as a Sign of God, and not as armed warriors, secretly planning to take over the world. That is only a part of fiction and it should remain fiction. What we prove from Quran is that there might be some extra-terrestrial life of some sort (not necessarily like ours) outside the earth.

Aliens are extra-terrestrial beings, not extra dimensional. The word عالمين might also be referring to those extra-dimensional worlds. Jinns are a species of another dimension, angels have their own dimension, and our dimension is different and Allah is the creator of all these dimension and he alone controls and comprehends all dimension fully. We, bound in our own dimension can never fully understand species of other dimensions.

Another important question that remains is that whether we'll ever be able to discover life in other parts of the universe or not, a life in a dimension comprehendible for us. For the details of that see : Surah Fussilat 41:53.

In short Allah is the lord of all times, all worlds, all discovered and undiscovered species, beings of all dimensions, all living and non living things etc.

Surah Al A’araf (7:54) – Six day Creation, Spherical Shape of the Earth

Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and He is firm in power; He throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (He created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by His command; surely His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

M Shakir's Quran Translation

Your Guardian-Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): He draweth the night as a veil o'er the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession: He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His command. Is it not His to create and to govern? Blessed be Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!

Yusuf Ali's Quran Translation

Six Day Creation

Clarification no 1

Quran mentions the six day creation at various places in the Holy Quran. The Arabic words used are ستة ايام which can be translated as six days or six epochs. The Arabic word ايام conveys both the meanings. Considering the fact that a 24 hours day depends upon the movement of sun, moon and the earth and those were not even created yet the right way to translate the Ayat as six epochs (periods) and not six days. Even if someone translates it as days then he should remember that those 'days' are not the 24 hour days but are the days in sight of Allah. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning
(Surah Hajj 22:47).

Clarification no 2

There are few ahadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)) which speak of some detail of creation. For instance:

Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) took hold of my hands and said: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created the clay on Saturday and He created the mountains on Sunday and He created the trees on Monday and He created the things entailing labour on Tuesday and created light on Wednesday and lie caused the animals to spread on Thursday and created Adam (peace be upon him) after 'Asr on Friday; the last creation at the last hour of the hours of Friday, i. e. between afternoon and night.

Muslim :: Book 39 : Hadith 6707

A non Muslim might argue that we Muslims say that the Quran speaks of the six period creation then why is this Hadith using the words Saturday, Sunday etc which are only used for a 24 hours day. A clarification is required that the description given in the above hadith is not of the six period creation mentioned in the Holy Quran. These happenings are after the six day creation, after the formation of universe and the earth. The above hadith mentions seven complete days and not the six days.

Clarification no 3

The description given in the bible in Genesis Chapter 1 is also of the creation after the creation of the universe and the earth. It is mentioned 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth' (Genesis 1:1) and the rest of the story is mentioned after that. This clarifies that the description mentioned ahead is the description after the creation of the earth and universe but amazingly the creation of sun and moon is mentioned afterwards which is unscientific. It also says that God did rest on the seventh day which is illogical, God doesn't require any rest.

That description of bible contains many errors. It is a mystery that can never be solved. Some Christians say that the days mentioned there are 24 hours some say those are long epochs. Which ever explanation we adopt, 24 hours or epochs, we can never solve all the 'problems' in these verses. I urge the readers to study Genesis Chapter 1 themselves.

Clarification no 4

At some places Quran has mentioned the simultaneous creation of the earth and the heavens but few people misunderstand it and say that Quran says that it created earth and then the heavens in two days which goes against the established scientific fact and the Quran when it says that it created the heavens and the earth in six days. The fact is that few people have mistranslated the Arabic wordثم which can have various meanings. In some places in the Quran it must be translated as 'moreover' or 'simultaneously'. If the word is correctly translated then those Ayaats would seem to tell that Allah created the Earth moreover he created the Heavens. See Surah Baqarah 2: 22 and Surah Fussilat 41:9-11.

Scientific interpretation of six day creation

What is the scientific interpretation of the six day creation? This is something still unknown to mankind. Why did Allah divide those events into six periods? This mystery is still unknown to mankind. We don't have any strong evidence to support it and also there is no evidence at all to refute it. There is some divine wisdom in Allah's classification of those events into six periods which will be might be revealed one day by the will of Allah.

Ayaats of Quran speaking of six day creation

Surah Aa'raf 7:54, Surah Younus 10:3, Surah Hood 11:7, Surah Furqan 25:59, Surah Sajdah 32:4, Surah Fussilat 41:9-11, Surah Qaaf 50:38, Surah Hadeed 57:4.

Spherical Shape of the Earth

This Ayat also draws our attention towards the spherical shape of the earth which was not known to man at that time. He throws the veil of night over the day;
which it pursues incessantly; these words refer to the spherical shape of the earth. The Arabic phrase يطلبه حثيثا means 'seeking the other in rapid succession' . Let us try to visualize what the Ayat is saying: he throws the veil of night over the day, seeking the other in rapid succession.

The day comes out every day from the same direction it came out from the previous day, and its sun moves to comes down in the same direction it came down at yesterday and also the darkness from the east and it depresses in the west, then this scene is repeated again and again.
Overlapping the night on the day so it hide it and makes the night as a sphere, and overlap the day on the night so it hide it and makes the day as a sphere. And so by making both of them rounded around each other we can see a spherical body rolling between both of them gathering them and making them rounded around each other. This body is the earth.

There are other Ayats in the Quran where spherical shape is described clearly. We'll discuss this topic there also. (See Surah Raad 13:3 and Surah Shams 91:6)

Divine Laws that govern the celestial bodies

Further more Allah says in the Ayat that all the celestial bodies are following the laws laid down by Allah. The billions of stars and galaxies in the universe move in perfect equilibrium in the paths set out for them. Stars, planets and satellites rotate not only around their own axes but also together with the systems of which they are an integral part. Sometimes, galaxies containing 200-300 billion stars move across each others' paths. Yet amazingly, no collisions take place that might damage the great order in the universe. This miracle is something over which all of us should reflect.

Surah Al An’aam (6:97) – Stars, a sign of Allah

And He it is Who has made the stars for you that you might follow the right way thereby in the darkness of the land and the sea; truly We have made plain the communications for a people who know.

M Shakir's Quran Translation

Stars, a Sign of Allah

Star, astronomically, is known as a massive shinning sphere of hot gas. About 5,000 stars can be seen with the naked eye, although not all of these stars are visible at any given time or from any given place. With a small telescope, hundreds of thousands of stars can be seen. The largest telescopes disclose millions of galaxies, which may each contain over 200 billion stars. Modern astronomers believe there are more than 1 x 1022 stars in the universe (this number is very large, a 1 followed by 22 zeros).

The color of stars—ranging from the deepest red through all intermediate shades of orange and yellow to an intense white-blue—depends directly on their temperature. The coolest stars are red and the hottest stars are blue. (Above information can be seen in the article Gingerich, Owen. "Star (astronomy)." Microsoft Encarta 2007)

One out of the countless blessings of Allah is stars who serve many purposes. The star most commonly known to us is the 'Sun'. Without the Sun life of on earth would have been impossible. Allah is drawing our attention to this gigantic blessing. A close look of all the different of energies that we are using on this planet earth we'll come to know that the sole source of them are stars (most important of them is of course the Sun).

North Star, a Natural Compass

Stars (especially North Star) have been used by people since the beginning of life on this planet for finding directions. North Star or Polestar is a conspicuous star in the northern hemisphere, located closest to the point toward which the axis of the Earth is directed, thus roughly marking the location of the north celestial pole. A polestar has been used by navigators throughout recorded history for charting navigation routes and is still used for determining true azimuth and astronomic latitude.

An important message conveyed by this Ayat is that the way stars help you in finding the right path at night if you ponder over this impeccable sign of Allah it would lead you to the 'right path' in the long run and help you distinguish between right and wrong.

Ayaats in Quran which mention Stars

Surah Anaam 6:76,97, Surah Aa'raf 7:54, Surah Yusuf 13:4, Surah Nahl 16:12,16, Surah Hajj 22:18, Surah Noor 24:35, Surah Saafat 37:6,88, Surah Fussilat 41:12, Surah Toor 52:49, Surah Najm 53:1, Surah Waqiyah 56:75, Surah Jinn 72:8, Surah Mursalat 77:8, Surah Takweer 81: 2,15, Surah Infitaar 82:2, Surah Buruj 85:1, Surah Tariq 86:3.

Surah Al An’aam (6:96) – Night designed for rest, Spherical Shape of the Earth

He causes the dawn to break; and He has made the night for rest, and the sun and the moon for reckoning; this is an arrangement of the Mighty, the Knowing.

M Shakir's Quran Translation

Spherical Shape of the Earth

The term فالق الاصباح that is breaking the dawn in the Ayat points towards the spherical shape of the earth contrary to what was thought at the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW. There are other Ayats in the Quran where spherical shape is described explicitly. We'll discuss this topic there. (See Surah Shams 91:6)

Ayaats in the Quran which point towards Geo Spherical Shape of the Earth

Surah Anaam 6:96, Surah Hajj 22:6, Surah Luqman 31:29, Surah Faatir 35:13, Surah Hadeed 57:6, Surah Shams 91:6.

Night 'designed' for rest

The second important thing mentioned in the Ayat is that Allah has made the night peaceful, in other words night is specially designed for sleep and rest. Modern Scientific discoveries uncover this secret.

Melatonin

First interesting thing is the discovery of hormone which makes one 'sleepy'. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that is released into the bloodstream during the hours of darkness. While scientists continue to study the function of melatonin in humans, they believe the hormone plays a role in the body's circadian rhythm. This rhythm regulates the physiological functions that occur in the body within a 24-hour period, such as sleep-wake cycles, fluctuations in body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure.

Scientists theorize that because melatonin levels are low during the day and high at night, melatonin may instruct the body when it is day or night, enabling the body to adapt and meet the demands of its changing environment. Melatonin may also provide seasonal cues by, for instance, informing the body about the longer nights that occur in winter and the shorter nights in summer.

Other studies have found that melatonin levels in the body decline with age in humans, leading some researchers to speculate that melatonin acts as an antiaging hormone by alleviating some of the adverse effects of aging such as heart disease. (Turek, Fred W. "Melatonin." Microsoft Encarta 2007)

The hormone melatonin prepares the body for sleep by slowing down peoples' physical movements, making them sleepy and tired, and functioning as a natural tranquillizer that eases their minds. During sleep, heartbeat and respiration rhythms slow down and blood pressure falls. In the morning, the production of the hormones stops and the body is stimulated to awaken. ("Melatoning the Growth Hormone, "Health Journal)

Reduced Photosynthesis and perspiration in plants

Many activities that take place during the day slow down and rest during the night. In plants, for instance, perspiration in leaves and photosynthesis begin to rise when the Sun rises. In the afternoon, the situation is reversed. In other words, photosynthesis slows down and respiration increases since perspiration is accelerated as the temperature rises. At night time, as the temperature falls, perspiration slows down and the plant rests. Most plants would die if just one night failed to take place. From that point of view, night means rest and reinvigoration for plants, just as it does for human beings. ("Light, Temperature and Humidity," Texas Agricultural Extension Service)

Reduced Movement even at the molecular level

Another Interesting discovery is that movement even at the molecular level decreases at night. The radiation emitted by the Sun during the day activates the atoms and molecules in Earth's atmosphere and causes them to achieve higher energy levels. As darkness falls, the atoms and molecules fall to lower energy levels and start to give off radiation. ("Night-time on Venus", January 18, 2001)

And We made the night to be a covering
(Surah Naba 78:10)

Surah Al An’aam (6:73) – Scientific Evidence on Oneness of Allah

And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth with truth, and on the day He says: Be, it is. His word is the truth, and His is the kingdom on the day when the trumpet shall be blown; the Knower of the unseen and the seen; and He is the Wise, the Aware.

M Shakir's Quran Translation [6-73]

There are at least 64 Ayaats in which the Quran draws our attention towards the heavens and the earth. There are uncountable signs of Allah in the heavens and the earth. If one ponders over these signs he is sure to realize that there is some super natural being that created this universe, whose boundaries are still unknown to us. If one keeps on pondering than he'll realize that God is One.

Scientific Evidence on Oneness of Allah

Ibrahim B.Syed, PhD writes in his article 'Scientific evidence on oneness of Allah':

The concept of oneness is the strongest foundation of Islam that is the unity of God. We can convince non Muslims on this subject if we do this scientifically, rationally or logically. All matter is made of atoms. The simplest atom is the atom of Hydrogen which consists of a proton (+ positively charged) and an electron (- negatively charged) orbiting around the nucleus. 75% of matter in the universe consists of Hydrogen and the rest is made of Helium which is in the stars such as our sun where nuclear fusion (deuterium and tritium fuse to form Helium and Energy) takes place resulting in release of energy (heat and light).

The physicists have determined accurately the mass, charge, spin, etc of the proton and the electron. The diameter of the proton, the distance between the proton and the electron has also been precisely determined. The proton to electron mass ratio is 1837. That is one proton is equal to 1837 electrons. Why the ratio is 1837 and not 1500 or 2000? The answer will give you the existence of God.

When the hydrogen found on any planet in the solar system or in our sun is analyzed, we find it to be identical to that found on the earth. Our sun is one of the 200 billion stars in our Galaxy called the Milky Way Galaxy. The hydrogen in any star in the Milky Way Galaxy is identical to that found on earth. There are about 200 billion Galaxies in the Universe. The nearest Galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy. The properties of Hydrogen in any Galaxy are identical to that found on Earth.

(Excerpted with modifications from Ibrahim B.Syed, PhD's article 'Scientific evidence on oneness')

We all see that the physical laws governing the universe are the same every where. This proves that there is a 'single' creator and hence there is only one God who has created the whole universe in perfect equilibrium and with countless signs so that we ponder over them.

For more detail and the complete list of the 64 Ayaats where Quran draws our attention towards the heavens and the earth see Surah Baqarah 2:164.

Surah Al An’aam (6:14) – Creation from Nothing

Say: Shall I take a guardian besides Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, and He feeds (others) and is not (Himself) fed. Say: I am commanded to be the first who submits himself, and you should not be of the polytheists.

M Shakir's Quran Translation[6-14]

Creation from Nothing

This Ayat tells us that Allah is فاطر (originator) of the heavens and the Earth. Other Ayaats of the Quran also use the word بديع for originator. Both these term refer to the creation out of nothing.

Word Analysis:

Hazrat Ibn e Abbas said that I came to know the exact meaning of فاطر from a Bedouin. He was fighting with one of his companion. They had some controversy over a well. The Bedouin said انا فطرتها meaning that I created it first. Hence, meaning of this Ayat becomes that Allah formed this universe out of nothing without any previous example
(Tafsir Ibn e Kathir 4/382, under the explanation of 35:1). This topic has been discussed in detail under Surah Baqarah 2:117.

Ayaats on 'origin' of universe from nothing:

Using the word بَدِيع: Surah Baqarah 2:17, Surah Anaam 6:101.

Using the word فاطر: Surah Anaam 6:14, Surah Yusuf 12:101, Surah Faatir 35:1, Surah Zumar 39:46, Surah Shura 42:11.

Surah Al Maida (5:17) – Interstellar Space

Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely, Allah-- He is the Messiah, son of Marium. Say: Who then could control anything as against Allah when He wished to destroy the Messiah son of Marium and his mother and all those on the earth? And Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them; He creates what He pleases; and Allah has power over all things

M Shakir's Quran Translation

Interstellar Space

Text to consider in this Ayat is: وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا
And Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. Interstellar space, expanse between stars was earlier thought to exist of vacuum. Before modern electromagnetic theory, early physicists postulated that an invisible luminiferous aether existed as a medium to carry light waves. Later on in the 20th century the advent of deep photographic imaging allowed Edward Barnard to produce the first images of dark nebulae silhouetted against the background star field of the galaxy, while the first actual detection of cold diffuse matter in interstellar space was made by Johannes Hartmann in 1904 through the use of absorption line spectroscopy. The interstellar medium consists of an extremely dilute (by terrestrial standards) mixture of ions, atoms, molecules, larger dust grains, cosmic rays, and (galactic) magnetic fields. (Spitzer, L. (1978), Physical Processes in the Interstellar Medium). In our own galaxy, the Milky Way, we can see glowing gas and dark, obscuring dust between the galaxy's many visible stars. This gas and dust makes up interstellar matter. Galaxies differ in the density of interstellar matter that they contain. Spiral galaxies, such as the Milky Way, have much more interstellar matter than elliptical galaxies, which have almost none. About 3 percent of the mass of the Milky Way Galaxy is interstellar gas, and 1 percent is interstellar dust. Stars make up the rest of the ordinary matter in the galaxy. Dark matter—a material that does not reflect or emit light or other forms of electromagnetic radiation—also makes up some of the mass of the galaxy. Astronomers consider interstellar matter separately from intergalactic matter, or matter between galaxies.

Thorndike (1930) noted that "it could scarcely have been believed that the enormous gaps between the stars are completely void. Terrestrial auroras are not improbably excited by charged particles from the Sun emitted by the Sun. If the millions of other stars are also ejecting ions, as is undoubtedly true, no absolute vacuum can exist within the galaxy." (Thorndike, S. L. (1930), "Interstellar Matter", Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific )

Hydrogen gas makes up most of the interstellar matter, but essentially all of the chemical elements occur in interstellar matter. About 90 percent of the atoms in space are hydrogen, about 9 percent helium, and less than 1 percent consists of all the other chemical elements. The interstellar matter is so spread out that the space it occupies would be considered a vacuum in laboratories on Earth. (Source: Encarta Encyclopedia 2007)

Scientists state that first of all, a mass of hot gas increased in density. This mass later divided into smaller parts to form galactic matter and later still, the stars and planets. To put it another way, the Earth along with stars around it, are all parts which separated from a united body of gas. Some of these parts brought the suns and planets into being, thus leading to the emergence of the many Solar Systems and galaxies.

This fact is also mentioned in the Holy Quran. We will discuss in detail under that Ayat.

Then He directed Himself to the heaven and it is a smoke, so He said to it and to the earth: Come both, willingly or unwillingly. They both said: We come willingly.

Surah Ale Imran (3:190) – Signs in the Creation of the Heavens and the Earth

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلاَفِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لآيَاتٍ لِّأُوْلِي الألْبَابِ

Most surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day there are signs for men who understand.

Signs in the creation of Heavens and Earth

"If a person spends his whole life in one room. It is enough for him to recognize God"
(Harun Yahya )

As a matter of fact, there are so many signs of Allah in the creation of heavens and earth that it is impossible to mention them in one single place. Many books can be written on the topic. As the science develops our knowledge will keep on increasing on this topic and we will get more and more astonished on the marvels of Allah.

Signs of creation have already been discussed under Surah Al Baqarah : (2:22) and (2:164) .

Surah Al Baqarah (2:164) – Ayat ul Ayaat (The Ayat of Signs), Signs of Allah Everywhere !

Most surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day, and the ships that run in the sea with that which profits men, and the water that Allah sends down from the cloud, then gives life with it to the earth after its death and spreads in it all (kinds of) animals, and the changing of the winds and the clouds made subservient between the heaven and the earth, there are signs for a people who understand.

M Shakir's Quran Translation

This particular ayat is known as the ayat of signs آية الآيات. This ayat invites us to think on the following things.

1-Creation of the heavens and the earth

2-Alternation of days and nights

3-Ships in the seas (mentioned in at least 16 different places)

4-Water coming down from the sky as rain (mentioned in at least 10 different places)

5-Life of earth after its death

6-Dispersing all kinds of animals on earth

7-Change of clouds and winds

There is a something special in the things which ALLAH mentions here. Generally ALLAH invited us to ponder over the things around us in many verses in the Qur'an.

Consider what is it that is in the heavens and the earth; and signs and warnings do not avail a people who would not believe
(Surah Younus 10:101)

There are no less then 74 places in the holy Qur'an where ALLAH invited to discover his signs using the word 'signs'. The list of those 74 verses is as follows:

(2:73),(2:158),(2:164),(3:190),(6:99),(6:109),(10:5),(10:6),(10:67),(10:101),(12:105),(13:2),(13:3),(13:4),(14:5),(15:75),(15:77),(16:11),(16:12),(16:13),(16:65),(16:67),(16:69),(16:79),(17:12),(18:17),(20:54),(20:128),(22:32),(22:36),(23:30),(26:8),(26:67),(26:203),(26:121),(26:174),(26:190),(27:52),(27:93),(29:15),(29:35),(29:44),(34:9),(34:15),(36:33),(36:37),(36:41),(30:21),(30:22),(30:23),(30:24),(30:25),(30:37),(30:46),(30:50),(31:31),(31:32),(32:26),(39:42),(39:52),(40:13),(40:81),(41:37),(41:39),(41:53),(42:29),(42:32),(42:33),(45:3),(45:4),(45:5),(45:13),(51:20),(51:37)

And only in one Surah i.e. Surah Rahman this verse had been repeated 31 times

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
(Surah Rahman 55:13)

This is the one of the three places in the Qur'an, where ALLAH mentions so many signs in particular, for us, to ponder over. The other places are Surah Ar-Rum (30:21-25) but the signs mentioned there have a close relation with the particular with psychology of people and Surah Anaam where signs particularly related with agriculture are mentioned. Here ALLAH mentions seven things in particular and then says that in these there are signs for ' people who understand', ' people who have sense'.

Just a little thinking, a little use of the brain can make us realize what is special in seven things that ALLAH mentioned which any logical person can understand. In addition, in fact there are great scientific points to think in these seven things that any person having a little knowledge of science can understand.

1-Creation of the heavens and the earth

In many verses over the Holy Qur'an stress is laid on the signs in the Heaven and the earth. In no less then 64 places in the Holy Qur'an ALLAH diverts our thinking towards the Heaven and the Earth. Moreover, the thing, which is mentioned in the Qur'an many times, is that much important. Repetition is directly proportional to importance.

Imagine a pencil or even a piece of paper come to existence by itself. Its something we would not be able imagine even. Then how can the immense universe come to existence by itself. Doesn't this remind you of the creator? Doesn't this force you to think that some one really powerful, really intelligent, having all sorts of knowledge would have created these heavens and the earth?

The accurate description of the universe in the Holy Quran (at a time when we had no telescopes) is itself a proof that the author of this book is all-knowing.

  • The Big Bang (21:30)
  • Atmosphere as a roof (2:22)
  • Heavens without pillars (13:2),(31:10)
  • Mountains stabilize the earth and serve as pegs (78:7)

Peaceful Bang…Big Bang

Does a bomb blast ever take place in harmony? Because of a bomb blast, we always find some sort of destruction. We see the loss of lives, loss of money etc. Had anything constructive ever happened out of a blast? Answer certainly is a big No! Did not the Universe and the heavens and earth came into result a result of a bang a blast; The Big Bang. How the perfect harmony?
Everything, every detail from the atom, the smallest unit of matter, to the galaxies harboring billions of stars, from the moon, an inseparable adjunct of the world, to the solar system, all work in a perfect harmony. The big bang must have been a controlled blast. But who controlled it? Surely the Lord, ALLAH.

Our own solar system exists within one of the spiral arms of the disk-shaped galaxy called the Milky Way. This false-color image looks toward the center of the Milky Way, located 30,000 light-years away. Bright star clusters are visible along with darker areas of dust and gas.

The Accurate Creation

Hydrogen comprises 75% of the universe, playing a most vital role in its chemistry. Without it there would be no organic materials, no water and, obviously, no earth or oceans. It is, of course, possible that stars could have formed from helium alone if hydrogen did not exist, but they would have burned at a much higher rate. They would have exhausted their fuel in a very short time and exploded long before life could have developed anywhere.

Let us now look at the early history of the universe to see if a haphazard process could have resulted in the production of hydrogen and the ratio of hydrogen to helium of 75 to 25 which now exists. During the first one and a half minutes of the Big Bang, there was total equilibrium. Free neutrons and protons were being continually created and annihilated at fantastic rates. As the universe expanded and the temperature dropped, the reaction rates also slowed down until, at the "freeze out" temperature of 10 (raised to the power of 9) K, the equilibrium was destroyed and the abundance ratios of neutrons and protons remained fixed --- one neutron for every six protons. From then on, neutrons combined with protons to form deuterium, which in turn formed helium, and the unmatched protons formed hydrogen.

Recent detailed analysis by physicists indicates that the preceding factors: (1) the specific abundance ratios of protons and neutrons, (2) the existence of hydrogen, and (3) the specific hydrogen to helium ratios must be considered at least "very remarkable," since they could not have been the result of some haphazard set of circumstances. They imply, as one physicist put "a fortuitous" arrangement of a number of factors from different fields:

1.    A large role is played by the difference between the mass of a proton and that of a neutron. It is calculated that if the neutron's mass was only slightly different, just one thousandth of a percent of change, the neutron would not be able to decay into protons and electrons (thus producing the one proton and one electron needed to produce hydrogen). If this process did not take place, there would be no hydrogen, and in all likelihood, no atoms at all. We would not be here to write this, nor would you, or anyone else, be here to read it!

2.    Free neutrons are unstable particles. They disintegrate spontaneously in about fifteen minutes. If the neutron's lifetime were any different from what it is, the universe would either be all helium, or no helium at all. If the disintegration were faster, the free neutrons could not catch the free protons and helium would not be produced; and if it were slower, then all the free neutrons would catch all the free protons and only helium would be formed. In either case, the result would be the same as for item one, above.

3.    It has been established that there are four forces in nature holding the universe together at the most fundamental level and determining the size and structure of all that we see: gravity, the electromagnetic force, the strong force and the weak force. The strength of gravity (designated as 10 (raised to the minus 39th power)) is infinitesimal compared to the strength of the weak force (10 (raised to the minus 5th power)), yet this is exactly how it has to be. If the two forces were any different, the proton/neutron ratios would be almost zero or almost 100%, and again, life could not exist.

Now let us look very briefly at carbon and oxygen. These are elements which are vital to life on earth. Detailed studies indicate that they have been produced in exactly balanced amounts. Any excess in carbon would have prevented the formation of many materials essential for life. An excess in oxygen would have burned up many carbon bearing biochemicals also essential for life. Once again, studies show that for carbon and oxygen to have been synthesized and produced in the abundance ratios we observe, it required precise matching. This is critical when we remember that those ratios are necessary for life.

The electrons of an atom reside in various states depending on their energy level, giving rise to different chemical properties. Analogous properties exist for the protons and neutrons. These analogous properties are called the nuclear resonance level.

The successful synthesis of carbon and oxygen, as well as their appropriate ratios, is the direct result of their having exactly the correct nuclear resonance levels. If this were not so, the synthesis would place too easily and all carbon would be fused into oxygen! This is too complex a process to try to discuss in this short space, but as physicist Fred Hoyle, in his book Galaxies, Nucleai & Quasars: "carbon and oxygen are like two radio receivers, each tuned to a particular wavelength. Unless the tunings are right, far more oxygen is produced than carbon."

In coming to any conclusions from all this, two points must be remembered. First, as we said in the beginning, these are not isolated coincidences and may be dismissed with the wave of a hand. We have given here two examples as illustrations. Within any field one studies in any detail -- chemistry, physics, biology, etc. -- one will find the same phenomenal fine tuning: specific selections of factors toward a specific goal. Second, each of these "coincidences" requires a coordination of factors from various fields, making the case for "coincidence" even less likely. On the carbon/ oxygen ratios and the delicate positioning of nuclear resonances on which they depend, Fred Hoyle has this conclusion: "if you want to produce carbon and oxygen in roughly equal amounts by stellar nucleosynthesis, these are the two levels you would have to fix and your fixing would have to be where these are actually found to be. A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with physics as well as chemistry and biology and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature."

How long will most scientists and others who choose not to believe in the magnificent design of God continue to say "fortuitous arrangement of factors" and "remarkable coincidences," in spite of the overwhelming and increasing evidence to the contrary? Apparently, human arrogance has no limit when it comes to admitting the existence of God. As an example, I cite John Barrow (author of the Anthropic Cosmological
Princole). He apparently believes that our existence is actually responsible for the very special structure of the Universe! "Many observations of the natural world, although remarkable, a priori, are seen in this light as inevitable consequences of our own existence."

The preceding quotation, taken at face value, implies that you and I are somehow the cause of the fact that the neutron has a life of fifteen minutes, or that it has a certain weight and not another!

[He is] the one to whom belongs the kingship of the heavens and the Earth. He never had a son, nor does He have any partnership in kingship. He created everything in exact measure; He precisely designed everything.
(Surah Furqan 25:2)

(The above-mentioned facts have been excerpted from Hussein Kowserri's article HYDROGEN, CARBON AND OXYGEN: VITAL ELEMENTS BY ACCIDENT OR DESIGN?)

The above-mentioned example is just a single of the thousand examples available, which force us to think there is an element of creation in the universe. It's impossible for all of it to have come by itself. Look at the structure of water. It is full of miracles. Even if we look into our own body, the complex structures and the great accuracy force us to believe the reality the reality of creation and the reality of the great creator. A small change in the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere, the distance of earth from the sun, the anomalous properties of water will cause all of us to die.

2-Alternation of Days and Nights

Qur'an encourages us to think over the night and the day no less than 42 times.

And We have made the night and the day two signs, then We have made the sign of the night to pass away and We have made the sign of the day manifest, so that you may seek grace from your Lord, and that you might know the numbering of years and the reckoning; and We have explained everything with distinctness.

(Surah Israa 17:12)

In the alternation of days and nights, there is a sign for logical, wise people. The sun never catches up the moon nor does the moon catch up the sun. What this teaches us? When the sun reaches its peak, it starts coming down. The day does not remain forever nor does the night; showing us that this life is a temporary one. Everything here is bound to perish at its time. We will leave the world soon and others will take our place but what about the unsettled problems. Someone robbed your one-year savings. Someone kidnapped your innocent child and never returned him back. Who is going to give you the return and when? Learn what the nature teaches you. Everyday the alternation of day and night reminds you that soon you are going to leave this world. Soon you are going to die. Have you prepared anything for the world you are heading to?

Qur'an , which was revealed 1400, contains scientific facts regarding the Sun, the Moon that have been newly discovered by modern science.

  • The movement of the Sun
  • Does Moon have light of its own?

The importance of daytime for the continuous of life on earth:

Daytime, sunlight and its heat and radiations are the most important factors which Allah subjected so life can continue on our planet. Thu, when green plants are exposed to sunlight it transfers the energy of light into a chemical energy formed as bonds in the sugar substances this process is called "photosynthesis" also water and carbon dioxide are important components in this process. Photosynthesis is the basic source of almost all energies on earth and food substances, and if it hadn't been for light this process wouldn't exist and all means of life would vanish.

The importance of night for the continuous of life:

Even thought most of the important biological processes take place in daytime, millions of them are at night. Scholars divided photosynthesis reactions into: light reactions which happen only in the existence of light, dark reactions which take place at night and doesn't need light.

The alternation and its effect on life:

The differentiation between daytime and night in length, brightness and darkness, warmth and coldness are important factors for life. For instance, in flowering plants neither fruits nor seeds will grow if flowers haven't, and these flowers don't grow on any plant unless it has a chemical biological substance called" flowering hormone" which leads to the flowering process. This substance is formed only by the alternation of light and dark and their intensity and length; in fact God has created in the kingdom of plant those which need daily darkness until they flower, thus they are called" long night plants" on the contrary, there are others which need light" long daytime plants"

So according to these facts long night plants cant be moved to an environment where daytime is longer than night, therefore the plant will not have flowers, fruits nor seeds this happens if night plants are exposed to artificial light by using big mirrors to change dark into light in some parts of the earth, as a result the biological process of the plant will be disturbed.

There are some creatures; other than plants; that are affected by light and dark like some germs and sea plants.

It has been found that the ozone layer protects earth creatures from getting exposed to intense light so they won't get killed, in fact the increase of light resulted in the decrease of protein 20% from the rate in some plants, and this indicates that night is essential for their living.

From the above we realize that night is very important for life to continue. When I searched in the Quran for verses mentioning day and night, I have found that the word " night" comes before day in most of them which means that night is important as daytime, and the difference between them in length of time in important from a scientific view.

(Above information about the importance of days and nights from the scientific perspective has been excerpted with slight modifications from Miracles from Quran and the world of plant By Dr.Nazmy kaleel abu al Ata
, Specialist in philosophy of biology (plants) in the University of Een Shames)

3-Ships in the seas

As the globe of earth is made two thirds of water (seas and oceans), it was necessary for man to explore ways of moving over and dive under the surface if seas and oceans, if he was to be the master of his own globe. ALLAH draws our attention to the ships in the seas no less than 16 times in the holy Qur'an. See how the ships sail in the seas. In this, there are signs for the believers. How ALLAH taught people the means of transport. People sailing in the ships when caught in some sorts of thunderstorms always call upon the GOD to save him. ALLAH draws our attention to these different means of transport, different types of motion. ALLAH draws our attention towards the flight of the birds in other places as well.

Allah mentions strange facts regarding the seas that were unknown to man the time the Qur'an was revealed.

  • Two seas with an unseen barrier (55:19)
  • The mummy of Pharaoh a sign (10:12)

4-Water coming down from sky as rain

At least 10 times in the holy Qur'an ALLAH draws our attention towards rainfall. The Water cycle, measure of rain, the process of formation of clouds has been discussed in the Qur'an various times and in perfect conciliation with the established science. The four remaining signs mentioned in this verse are closely related.

See the method nature formed for our survival. The heat of the sun, the formation of clouds, and the rainfall isn't this natural irrigation system. Had there been no such system had we been able to make such a large scale irrigation system. Surely, there is a great plan behind it. This great system, the natural system couldn't possibly have to come to existence on its own.

The facts regarding the rain and the complete water cycle mentioned in the Holy Quran are a 'food for thought' for all those in search in of truth.

  • Stage-wise formation of rain (30:48)
  • The Complete Water Cycle

The minimum altitude of rain clouds is 1,200 meters. When dropped from this height, an object having the same weight and size as a rain drop would continuously accelerate and fall on the ground with a speed of 552 km/h.

Initial velocity: 0 m/s Acceleration due to gravity: 9.8 m/s Height: 1200 meters Final velocity: (2aS) ½ = 552 km/h

This gives us the final speed of about 552 km/h. Certainly, any object that hits the ground with that speed would cause great damage. If rain happened to fall in the same way, all harvested lands would be destroyed, residential areas, houses, and cars would be damaged, and people would not be able to walk around without taking extra precautions. What is more, these calculations are made just for clouds at a height of 1,200 meters; there are also rain clouds at altitudes of 10,000 meters. A raindrop falling from such a height could normally reach a very destructive speed about 1593 km/h.

But this is not how it works; no matter from what height they fall, the average speed of rain drops is only 8-10 km/h when they reach the ground. The reason for this is the special form they take. This special form increases the friction effect of the atmosphere and prevents acceleration when the rain drops reach a certain speed "limit". (Today parachutes are designed by using this technique.)

He sends down (from time to time) water from the sky in due measure, and We raise to life therewith a land that is dead. Even so will you be raised (from the dead)
(Surat Zukhruf 43:11)

5-Life of earth after its death

This has also been discussed many times in the holy Qur'an.

Logical signs:

ALLAH makes the dead earth alive from water. We see this every day. How the 'living' plants come out from 'dead' seeds. Similarly after the end of this world, ALLAH will send a rain once more. And man will come out of the earth just like plants for the real life.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amar that ALLAH's apostle Muhammad (S.A.W) said: Then the trumpet will be blown and he who hears it will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side. The first one to hear that trumpet will be the person who is busy in setting right the cistern meant for supplying water to the camels. He will faint and the other people will also faint. Then Allah will send or He will cause to be sent rain which will be like dew and there will grow out of it the bodies of people. Then the second trumpet will be blown and they will stand up and begin to look (around). Then it will be said: O people go to your Lord. They will be made to stand there and they will be questioned. Then it will be said: Bring out a group (of them) for the Hell-Fire. It will be asked: How much? It will be said: Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of one thousand for the Hell-Fire. That will be the day that will make the children old because of its terror and that will be the day about which it has been said: "On the day when the shank will be uncovered"

(Sahih Muslim Hadith no 1371)

Rain drops that reach the clouds after being evaporated from the seas, contain certain substances "that will give life" to a dead land. These "life-giving" drops are called "surface tension drops". Surface tension drops form on the top level of the sea surface which is called the "micro layer" by biologists. In this layer, which is thinner than one tenth of a millimeter, there are many organic leftovers caused by the pollution of microscopic algae and zooplankton. Some of these leftovers select and collect within themselves some elements, which are very rare in seawater, such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and some heavy metals like copper, zinc, cobalt and lead. These "fertilizer"-laden drops are lifted up into the sky by the winds and after a while they drop on the ground inside the rain drops. Seeds and plants on the earth find numerous metallic salts and elements essential for their growth here in these rain drops. This event is revealed in another verse of the Qur'an:

And We send down from the sky rain laden with blessing, and We produce therewith gardens and grain for harvests
(Surah Qaf 50:9)

Salts that fall with rain are small examples of certain elements (calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.) used for increasing fertility. The heavy metals found in these types of aerosols are other elements that increase fertility in the development and production of plants.

A barren land can be furnished with all the essential elements for plants in a 100-year period just with these fertilizers dropped with the rain. Forests also develop and are fed with the help of these sea-based aerosols. In this way, 150 million tons of fertilizer falls on the total land surface every year. If there were no natural fertilization like this, there would be very little vegetation on the earth, and the ecological balance would be impaired.

What is more interesting is that God revealed this truth, which was only be discovered by modern science now, and in the Qur'an centuries ago.

Does a Tree grow by itself

There is another sign in the life of plants from the 'dead' seed. The tree, as is well known, grows up from a seed out of the earth. From this tiny seed (a seed is not even 1 cubic centimeter in size), arises an enormous wooden mass of 4-5 meters long and hundreds of kilograms in weight. The only thing that the seed can use while constituting this great mass is the earth in which it is buried.

How can a seed know how to form a tree? How can it "reason" to decompose the necessary substances in the soil to create wood? How can it predict the required shape and structure? This last question is especially important, because it is not an ordinary wooden piece that emerges from the seed. It is a complex living organism with roots for assimilating substances from the earth, with veins and with branches that are perfectly organized. A human being has difficulty in drawing even a picture of a tree, while on the contrary a simple seed can produce such an extremely complex object by merely using the substances in the soil.

This observation concludes that a seed is extremely intelligent and wise, even more so than we are. Or to be more precise, there is an amazing intelligence in what a seed does. But what is the source of that intelligence? How can it be possible for a seed to have such intelligence and memory?

No doubt, this question has a single answer: the seed is created by being endowed with the ability to form a tree, that is, it is programmed so in advance. Every seed on earth is encompassed by God and grows within His knowledge. In one of the verses it is stated:

"With Him are the keys of the unseen, the treasures that none knows but He. He knows whatever there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but with His knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry (green or withered), but is (inscribed) in a record clear." (Surah Anaam, 6:59)

Ayaats of Quran which speak of raising dead from living or vice versa

Surah Baqarah 2:164, Surah Ale Imran 3:27, Surah Anaam 6:95, Surah Nahl 16:65, Surah Hajj 22:6, Surah Anqaboot 29:63, Surah Room 30:19,24,50, Surah Shura 42:9, Surah Jasiya 45:5, Surah Hadeed 57:17.

6-Dispersing all kinds of animals on earth

How many different types of creatures are there? Who created them all? The parasites in your body, the strange creatures in the depth of the seas, the numerous types of birds, the small insects: who created them all? Did they all come to existence by a mere chance? Who gives food to all of them, who gives them food in the depth of the seas and in the skies? Few creatures also live in the stones. Who takes the food there? Surely, the lord of all living things: ALLAH.

ALLAH mentions in the holy Qur'an facts about various organisms including the human beings, which are in perfect conciliation with the modern established science.

  • Hexagonal structure of the honey bee 'houses'
  • Embryology of humans
  • Remedy in the honey

In scientific terms, animals are multicellular organisms that obtain energy by eating food. There are almost 200 million known species and surely there are many more still awaiting to be identified. There are almost 25,000 recognized types of fishes and about 200-300 new are identified each year. The small insects we see every where; 1 million different species of insects have been identified so far. Did all those species come to existence on their own? Isn't there a divine design behind it?

How far spread these animals are. There are animals (fishes) whish live in the depth of the seas. Some live in the air; touching the heights e.g. eagles. Some live in the deserts e.g. deserts. Some live in the ice caps e.g. polar bear, penguin. Some live inside other organisms: like the parasites in our own body. Some are too small to be seen with naked eye e.g. the parasites and the spring tails that reach a density of 50,000 per square meter (more than 5,000 per square foot). Some are so big that they are cannibals e.g. the white rhinoceros reaching a weight of over three metric ton and there are whale sharks, which can be as much as 40 feet long. Some have very sharp eyesight. Some hardly see. Some have extraordinary sense of hearing. Some do not hear at all. These are widespread about which ALLAH is talking in this verse and all of them have special features of their own. When we see the animals living at the poles, there bodily structure is the ideal one for them to live in the extreme cold. The fishes swim easily. The birds fly easily. The camels have the perfect structure for the desert. Did this all happen by chance?

Sahih Bukhari Volume no 4 Hadith no 226

Jabir bin Abdullah said, "We set out, and we were three-hundred men carrying our journey-food on our shoulders. Then we began to eat a single date each per day." A man asked (Jabir), "O Abu Abdullah! How could a person be satisfied with a single date?" Jabir replied, "We realized the value of that one date when we could not even have that much till we reached the sea-shore, when all of a sudden we saw a huge fish cast by the sea. So, we ate of it as much as we wished for eighteen days."

Sahih Bukhari Volume no 5 Hadith no 646

Jabir bin Abdullah said, "Allah's Apostle sent troops to the sea coast and appointed Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah as their commander, and they were 300 (men). We set out, and we had covered some distance on the way, when our journey food ran short. So Abu 'Ubaida ordered that all the food present with the troops be collected, and it was collected. Our journey food was dates, and Abu Ubaida kept on giving us our daily ration from it little by little (piecemeal) till it decreased to such an extent that we did not receive except a date each." I asked (Jabir), "How could one date benefit you?" He said, "We came to know its value when even that finished." Jabir added, "Then we reached the sea (coast) where we found a fish like a small mountain. The people (i.e. troops) ate of it for 18 nights (i.e. days). Then Abu 'Ubaida ordered that two of its ribs be fixed on the ground (in the form of an arch) and that a she-camel be ridden and passed under them. So it passed under them without touching them."

One of the professors of physics at Oxford University, Robert Mattheus states the same fact in his book published in 1992 where he explains that God created DNA molecules. Mattheus says that all these stages proceed in a perfect harmony from a single cell to a living baby, then to a little child, and finally to an adolescent. All these events can be explained only by a miracle, just as in all the other stages of biology. Mattheus asks how such a perfect and complex organism can emerge from such a simple and tiny cell and how a glorious HUMAN is created from a cell even smaller than the dot on the letter 'i'. He finally concludes that this is nothing short of a miracle. (Robert Matthews, Unraveling the Mind of God, London Bridge, July, 1995, p.8)

7-Change of Clouds and Winds

Look at the different seasons of the year. They teach you a special lesson. See how immediately after the spring, the autumn comes and the whole beauty disappears. Everything has an end in this world. This world is not eternal. This is what the days teach us: night after every day. What the months teach us: autumn after every spring. Similarly: Death after Life and then Life after death (another spring, an eternal one). Time never remains the same. If you think you'll live in this world forever then you are in great ignorance.

The facts regarding formation of clouds mentioned in detail in the Holy Quran are in 100 percent conciliation with the present day science.

  • Stage-wise formation of clouds
  • Mountain masses of clouds

In this verse ALLAH states that and the changing of the winds and the clouds made subservient between the heaven and the earth. Understanding this statement at the time when the Quran was revealed must have been very difficult and now when we know the actual meaning of this verse we are bound to think; why there is a verse in the Quran, which mentions scientific facts to unknown to the people at that time. The answer is simple: People did not know the fact at that time but surely the creator of the heavens and the earth knew that, the GOD knew that and he revealed those facts to his messenger. Once again proving that Quran is the word of GOD.

Clouds made subservient between the heaven and the earth. This statement seems strange at first. Now think of the water cycle. Cloud is the condensed form of atmospheric moisture consisting of small water droplets or tiny ice crystals. Clouds are the principal visible phenomena of the atmosphere. They represent a transitory but vital step in the water cycle, which includes evaporation of moisture from the surface of the earth, carrying of this moisture into higher levels of the atmosphere, condensation of water vapor into cloud masses, and final return of water to the surface as precipitation. Therefore, actually the water keeps on circulating. There's nothing new in the clouds, as people previously thought. It's the water of the same world: Sometimes it in the oceans, sometimes in the clouds and sometimes coming down as rain; subservient between the heaven and the earth.

Wind is the air in motion. The term is usually applied to the natural horizontal motion of the atmosphere; motion in a vertical, or nearly vertical, direction is called a current. Winds are produced by differences in atmospheric pressure, which are primarily attributable to differences in temperature. The wind is also the same 'air' that keeps on moving between the heaven and the earth. Or this verse might be referring to the currents motion of atmosphere in vertical or nearly vertical direction.

Conclusion:

Science is a method that verifies the absolute truths provided by religion.
The clash between religion and science can only hold true for certain religions that incorporate some superstitious elements as well as divine sources. However, this is certainly out of the question for Islam, which relies only on the pure revelation of God. Moreover, Islam particularly advocates scientific enquiry, and announces that probing the universe is a method to explore the creation of God. The Arabic verse used for the verses of the Quran is also آيه, which also means ' sign '. Every verse of Quran is a sign. The Holy Quran itself is the biggest sign of ALLAH.

Surah Al Baqarah (2:148) – Can Allah do everything? Allah has power over all things

And every one has a direction to which he should turn, therefore hasten to (do) good works; wherever you are, Allah will bring you all together; surely Allah has power over all things.

M.H.Shakir's Qur'an Translation

To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.

Yusuf Ali's Qur'an Translation

And each one hath a goal toward which he turneth; so vie with one another in good works. Wheresoever ye may be, Allah will bring you all together. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things

Pickthall's Quran Translation

In the above translations if we go into depth there is difference between them. Infact translating the above verse as Allah has power over all things (like Pickthall did) isn't correct.

إِنَّ
means verily

اللّهَ
means ALLAH

عَلَى
means over

كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
means all things

قَدِيرٌ
means power

Instead of directly saying that ALLAH can do all things there is a great logic in saying that ALLAH has power over all things. Once during my academic career a teacher asked the class and said , " We know from the Qur'an thatإِنَّ اللّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِير
meaning ALLAH is able to do all things; Can ALLAH create a stone which he himself can't lift?"

I, aware of the answer, corrected the translation of the teacher and said, "ALLAH never said that HE can do all things. Saying that would have made the QUR'AN wrong and created confusions."

  • Can ALLAH throw anything out of his domain?
  • Can ALLAH sleep?
  • Can ALLAH create someone just like HIM?

That is why ALLAH says that He has control (power) over all things instead of saying that he is able to do all things would have created confusions. Atheists pose the same question to the Muslims to create confusions in their mind. If we don't know the correct translation then we can get confused.

Does ALLAH have control over me?

I can move freely. Does ALLAH have control over my hands? I can look wherever I want. Here the point to be clarified is that there are few things in which ALLAH gives us some freedom and in few things, he does not. Do we have control over our death? Can we live as long as we want? No! Certainly no. In few things ALLAH gives us free will and is testing us do we use our own will to do good things or bad things?

A glimpse of 'all things'

Although our galaxy, the Milky Way, is truly enormous by Earthly standards, it is quite insignificant compared to the entire Universe. It takes light about 60,000 years to flash across the Milky Way, but this is only a brief instant compared to the it time it takes it to flash across the visible universe, 30 billion years whereas the age of earth is 'only' 4.5 billion years and Big Bang too 13.7 billion years ago.

Our galaxy, of course, is only one among many billions. Studies of large-scale structure of the universe show that there is definite structure in the universe as far as we can possibly observe. Galaxies; the building blocks of universe, are not simply distributed randomly here and there, as in so many marbles in a bag, nor do they resemble a disorganized swarm of dust particles floating aimlessly in space. Independent of each other, but vast majority of them are organized into large orderly collections, clusters and super clusters, consisting of thousands, moving in unison, as it were. They are then gathered in regular patterns that look almost foam-like or sponge-like in appearance. Latest studies of the large scale structure, both in the northern and southern hemisphere confirm that galaxies are distributed on sheets, bubbles or filaments with huge voids in between. These voids, as large as 400 million light years across, are not rare but are in fact a common feature of the universe.

One of the biggest of these voids, hole in space, is the so-called "Hole in Boots" with a volume of 10 trillion cubic light years and with hardly any galaxy in it. To give you an idea of the vastness of this gigantic hole, it is big enough to contain well over a billion galaxies the size of our own Milky Way.

One of the biggest of the structures is the Virgo Supercluster, containing thousands of galaxies, including our own Local Group, which in turn includes the Milky Way. All moving at 600 km/second toward what appears to be a vast aggregation of matter, dubbed "Great Attractor", located 150 million light years from the Milky Way and containing the equivalent of, tens of thousands of galaxies, more than a quadrillion times the mass of the Sun.

Virgo Supercluster measurements now confirm that the average mass per galaxy is several trillion solar mass and not just a 100 billion or so previously thought. Our own Milky Way, for example, has at least 100 billion Solar sized star but weighing at least one trillion Solar mass. The rest of the mass being invisible, the so-called Dark matter, nature and identity of which is yet to be determined, one of the many unsolved puzzles of Cosmology.

These numbers are stunning in a variety of ways. They show the magnificent hierarchical structure of the Universe, as well as the enormity of the structures and mass. They also show the vastness of the universe. As massive as these galaxies and structures are, the universe is so vast that when visible mass of all objects in the Universe are added up we obtain an average density of only 10^-31 gm/cm^3. An earth-sized balloon of it would weigh no more than one flea. Of course, there is tremendous amount of Dark matter, add all that up and we have at least a tenfold increase, a mind boggling amount of mass of various forms, yet an Earth sized volume of it would now, weigh about ten fleas!! That is why a hadith of the prophet says that , "This Universe is not more than a mosquito's wing in the eyes in ALLAH's eyes"

By كُلِّ شَيْءٍ this is what ALLAH says not only this mere Earth, the whole universe, seen and unseen is in his control.

Unimaginable 'Control'

Let us see what sort of control ALLAH has. As tremendous as these numbers are we need not go into the deepest space or farthest corner of the Universe to appreciate the Majesty and power of God and to praise His Glory. All around us, in our bodies, wherever we look we have one of the densest objects in the entire universe, the nucleus of the atom and we have some of the emptiest regions (without getting too technical), anywhere in the universe, the atom itself. The volume of a typical atom is 10^15 times larger than the volume of its nucleus. For comparison, if we enlarge the atom to the size of Empire State Building, its nucleus would be no larger than a grain of sand at the center comprising over 99% of the weight of the atom. So keep in mind, your body, this paper you are reading, the chair you are sitting are all nothing but vast regions of virtually empty space surrounding an infinitesimally small nucleus. (Excerpted with slight modifications from Hussain Kowserri's article "At the center of immensities")

The proceeding also explains why, for example, a neutron star weighs so tremendously, a tablespoon of it weighing many billions of tons. Calculations predict that a neutron star is perhaps only 10 to 20 km in diameter yet it retains all the mass of star's core at least 14 times the full mass of the sun. The density of such mass can be as high as 10^15 grams/cubic centimeter (1,000,000,000,000,000 grams/cubic centimeter).Stars with about 8-30 solar mass do not die a calm and peaceful death when they reach the end of their lives. At that point, the force of Gravity is so tremendous and the star so defenseless, that gravity totally crushes all the atoms all the way to the nucleus leaving only the nucleus that now consists primarily of neutrons (thus the name neutron star). This process will reduce the size of a once mighty and giant star, many times bigger than sun, to only 10-20 kilometers in diameter. (These facts regarding the neutron star can be well seen in the books on astronomy and in Encarta Encyclopedia).

Allah says, "Allah is the Creator of every thing and He has charge over every thing. His are the treasures of the heavens and the earth; and (as for) those who disbelieve in the communications of Allah, these it is that are the losers "

Surah Al Baqarah (2:117) – Creation from Nothing, Allah is the originator of Heavens and the Earth

بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَإِذَا قَضَى أَمْراً فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

Wonderful Originator of the heavens and the earth, and when He decrees an affair, He only says to it, Be, so there it is

M Shakir's Quran Translation

To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is.

Yusuf Ali's Quran Translation

Creation from Nothing

Word Analysis:

In this Ayat careful emphasis should be laid on the words 'بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ' meaning 'Originator of the heavens and the earth'. The Arabic word بَدِيعُ is used to describe creation from nothing and the Arabic word خلق is used to describe creation from something already present. Allama Ibn e Kathir says regarding the word بَدِيعُ:
"literally بدعت means to create something new, make something new". He explains ابداع as creation without any previous example and without the use of any other matter or substance.
(See Tafsir Ibn e Kathir 1/241)

'Big Bang', is the currently accepted explanation of the beginning of the universe. The big bang theory proposes that the universe was once extremely compact, dense, and hot. Some original event, a cosmic explosion called the big bang, occurred about 13.7 billion years ago (some books also mention 15 billion years), and the universe has since been expanding and cooling. American astronomer Edwin Hubble provided some of the greatest supporting evidence for the theory with his 1929 discovery that the light of distant galaxies was universally shifted toward the red end of the spectrum. This shift proved that the galaxies were moving away from each other. Hubble found that galaxies farther away were moving away proportionally faster, showing that the universe is expanding uniformly. Regarding the initial state of the universe there are several different theories but the reality is that this uniform expansion clearly shows that there was an initial state of 'nothingness' from which this universe has evolved.
Before the Big Bang, there was no such thing as matter. From a condition of non-existence in which neither matter, nor energy, nor even time existed-and which can only be described metaphysically. Matter, energy, and time were all created in an instant. This fact, only recently discovered by modern physics, was announced to us in the Qur'an 1,400 years ago. This creation from nothingness is mentioned in this Ayat of the Holy Quran. One thing needs to be clarified here that there are few terminologies which Quran uses interchangeably; a general term is used instead of a specific one. Therefore, we'll find many ayats speaking of the creation of the heavens and the earth using the word خلق. Another word used in the Quran to specify the creation out of nothing of the universe is فاطر. This word will be discussed under Surah Anaam 6:14.

Ayaat on 'origin' of universe from nothing:

Using the word بَدِيع: Surah Baqarah 2:17, Surah Anaam 6:101.

Using the word فاطر: Surah Anaam 6:14, Surah Yusuf 12:101, Surah Faatir 35:1, Surah Zumar 39:46, Surah Shura 42:11.
