Surah Al An’aam (6:98) – Resting place and depsitory

 

 

وَهُوَ الَّذِيَ أَنشَأَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا الآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَفْقَهُونَ

And He it is Who has brought you into being from a single soul, then there is (for you) a resting-place and a depository; indeed We have made plain the communications for a people who understand. [6-98]

It is He Who hath produced you from a single person: here is a place of sojourn and a place of departure: We detail Our signs for people who understand.

Creation from a Single being

Creation from a single being نفس واحدة has been discussed in detail under Surah Nisa 4:1.

Resting Place and a Depository

مسقر (resting place) in this Ayat means the womb of the mother and مستودع (depository) means the back of the father. According to some other commentators resting place is the earth and depository is the time of death (See Tafsir Ibn e Kathir 2/127).
